Annual Report for 1999-2000
SummaryThere has been a significant increase in the number of faculty collaborative projects in the second year of the program. New projects are underway in the humanities and social sciences with notable efforts in less commonly taught languages. Students on both campuses have had access to courses that they would not otherwise have been able to take. Colloquia in the disciplines continue to be an effective approach for facilitating faculty awareness and collaboration. Technology workshops have been offered to encourage faculty members on both campuses to share online resources for web course development and electronic reserves. Assessments of student experiences so far suggest that our students benefit from technologies when our faculty members are proficient with the tools, and from joint course offerings. The second year of the Program has been characterized by steady growth in interest for collaborative work among our faculties. At the end of the first year of the program, approximately 25% of our faculties had participated in the Program and five collaborative projects were underway. At the close of the second year, 47% of our faculty members have been involved in Program offerings, and there are fourteen faculty-led, collaborative projects underway, many including joint course offerings. Four of last year’s projects have been completed with faculty continuing or planning to continue the efforts in some form on their own. This year, we reduced the number of exploratory workshops and focused on colloquia and faculty grants, a natural progression in the development of the program as faculty members became more familiar with technologies to enhance learning.
