Developing collaborative capacity with Geographic Information Systems
Abstract:
The faculties of Kenyon and Denison identified a common interest in the technology of environmental and landscape analysis using geographic information systems (GIS). The intent of this proposal is to provide GIS analytical capabilities on the Kenyon campus using the ArcView® software package. This package is currently in use by Denison faculty and students, and its availability at Kenyon will enable collaborative projects between the two institutions. One such collaborative venture is scheduled to begin this summer (1999) when both Kenyon and Denison faculty meet for a 5-day Geographic Information Systems workshop to develop course materials using GIS technology. This workshop will be based on ArcView analysis. To fully take advantage of the pedagogical tools developed at this workshop, and in order to launch student-faculty research projects in collaboration with Denison, it is necessary that this software be available at Kenyon.
