Off-Campus Study and Significant Academic Differences

Abstract:

Our project will have three phases. During the first phase, the Off-Campus Study Directors from Denison, Kenyon and Wooster will collaborate with faculty, returning off-campus study students and international students from all three institutions, to discuss the different approaches to university education in specific parts of the world – the kind of collaboration that would evolve into a planned colloquium at one of the three colleges on the above-named topic. During the second phase, we will seek the help of a video producer and student workers to develop a video that the three colleges would be able to use during their pre-departure orientation programs. In the third phase we will create a web-based, interactive product that would be of benefit, not only to us and to the other GLCA colleges, but also to any institution concerned about this very important and valuable part of off-campus study. We plan to hire and learn from student computing liaisons as we embark on the final phase of the project. This project will thus involve students, faculty and program directors in a collaboration that enhances the learning experience of the many students who engage in off-campus study.
